LOTTERY GRANTS
Applications due to College in mid-Fall Semester (TBA)

CoSS Faculty, Staff, and Students are eligible (Nontenured probationary preference among faculty) 

"to support faculty, staff, and student development...construed in a broad context...to result in the enhancement of instruction and/or learning"

Usual College allocation is approx. $50,000

Grants in College normally limited to $1250; absolute maximum is $2500

Students and Staff members are encouraged to apply

COSS Student awards may be limited to $500

College Research Committee selects recipients

CoSS RESEARCH AWARDS
Both Fall and Spring awards: Applications due to College middle of each semester  (TBA)

CoSS Faculty and Students (with  faculty sponsor)

"to stimulate and support faculty and student research and scholarly and creative activities"

Approximately $30,000 awarded annually (from Foundation Grant overhead) during recent years

Maximum:  $3000 (faculty)
                   $1500 (student)

Limit of one award per year

College Research Committee selects recipients

CoSS GRANT WRITING AWARDS
Applications due  to College in mid-Spring semester (TBA) or mid-Fall semester (TBA)

Full-time tenured & untenured members of
the CoSS faculty

"to support faculty in writing of grant proposals to be submitted for external funding"

NEW PROGRAM: Attempt to award all proposals of significant promise

Two types of awards:
Summer Grant: $5000
Fall or Spring Semester Grant: .20 assigned time

College Research Committee recommends for Dean's approval

CSU RESEARCH GRANTS
Applications due  to College in mid-Fall semester (TBA)

Faculty awards (preference given to non-tenured probationary faculty)

"to support research, scholarship, or creative activity"

Typically 2-4 awards to CoSS faculty

Three types of awards:
Mini-Grants: ($5000 maximum): "Seed money" (No faculty salary, but travel, equipment, etc. may be funded).
Summer Fellowships:($7000 maximum): "to inaugurate, continue, or complete a project) Pair: ($7500 maximum): Combination

Evaluated and ranked by College Research Committee

SJSU Committee (Graduate Studies and Research Office) selects recipients
