Private Funding

Farrington Historical Foundation

The Farrington Historical Foundation carries on the philanthropy of our benefactor, Dorothy Bogen Farrington. The Foundation allocates a portion of its endowment to fund community grants to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations based in Santa Clara County, California. All subject areas will be considered for funding, but emphasis will be given to historic preservation, environmental conservation, the arts, and cultural activities.

Koch Foundation

Charles G. Koch has supported research and educational programs focused on improving human well-being, especially for the least fortunate, for more than 50 years. The Charles Koch Foundation has continued this mission since its founding in 1980 by supporting the study of free societies, and the ideas, institutions, and values that maximize well-being. The Charles Koch Foundation has funded reading groups, visiting speaker series, and student scholarships.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation provides funding ($30,000/year) to support CommUniverCity's Money Matters program. Money Matters engages SJSU students to develop and conduct a series of financial literacy workshops for low-income, largely immigrant families. Under the direction of their class instructor, the SJSU students learn financial literacy basics and apply the lessons in their own finances. The students then design, develop and rehearse the workshops, which are conducted in community venues.

United Way Silicon Valley

The United Way Silicon Valley provides funding ($50,000/year) to support CommUniverCity's Growing Sustainably program. SJSU students prepare and teach garden education workshops aligned with common core standards for elementary school students in downtown schools and afterschool programs. The SJSU students also conduct nutrition and cooking classes designed to encourage the elementary school children to adopt healthy eating habits, and influence their families' food shopping and cooking routines.
