Getting to Campus and Parking
San Jose State University is located in the heart of San Jose's downtown area. Parking is limited and expensive, so we recommend using public transit whenever possible. The VTA light rail system has stops at Paseo De San Antonio two (southbound) and three (northbound) blocks from campus and 2-3 blocks from the Fairmont Hotel in the opposite direction. The light rail is serviced by a free shuttle to and from Mineta San Jose International Airport, and the light rail is a short ride downtown on any southbound light rail line.
San Jose is well connected to the San Francisco Bay Area with multiple transportation options. Coming from San Francisco or the Peninsula, take Caltrain. The East Bay is serviced by Amtrak and BART, although the BART line ends in Fremont and requires transfer to a 181 VTA Bart bus to reach Downtown San Jose. To use local transportation you can also buy a Clipper Card. A Clipper Card is an all-in-one transit "smart" card that you can load transit passes and electronic cash value to use on the Bay Area transit systems. They are purchased and loaded at various local retailers.
A list of retailers in Santa Clara County can be found on the Clipper Card website or by calling 877-878-8883.
Parking in Downtown Sam Jose is available on campus or at public lots. Campus lots (http://www.sjsu.edu/parking/maps/garages/) require a daily fee ($8 on weekdays, $5 on Saturdays: http://www.sjsu.edu/parking/permits/visitor/) paid at machines inside the parking lots. The lots closest to the Student Union are the 7th St and 9th Street Garages. School is in session, so it will probably be very difficult to find parking in these lots between 10 AM and 4 PM.
A public lot located at 4th Street and San Fernando ($20/day: http://sjdowntownparking.com ) is probably an easier place to find parking during peak hours and is right across San Fernando Street from the University.
If you are staying at the Fairmont, we strongly recommend just walking to campus, which is a 4 block walk along Paseo de San Antonio.
