Welcome to another semester of amazing weekend trips and outings with the Outdoor Adventures Team! No matter what your experience level might be in any of the following trips, we guarantee that you can expect to find a welcoming group of individuals to Wander, Connect, and Grow with! Our student leaders and local experts can't wait to share their spirit, passion, and knowledge of the outdoors with you!

 
Our trips are open to every skill level from beginner to expert. The following "Strenuosity Scale" is designed to help you identify the physical expectations of each trip.

 

 Outdoor Adventures “Strenuosity” Scale
  1. Outing is relaxed with a minimal amount of physical exertion.
  2. Some elements might be slightly strenuous, but no prior physical conditioning is needed.
  3. Outing has some physically demanding aspects. Expect to sweat, and be sore the next day. 
  4. You will need to be in good physical condition and be prepared to be challenged.

Point Reyes Backpacking (3)Elephant Seals aka awesome
 
Located about 30 miles North West of San Francisco, Point Reyes National Seashore is one of the best locations to backpack in the Bay Area. This trip will be jam packed full of wildlife, fantastic views of the ocean, and plenty of good company. You can expect to hike 4-8 miles per day with a large backpack carrying your food, tent, and clothing for the weekend.
 
Date / Time: Friday, February 22 (10am) - Sunday, February 24 (5pm)
Mandatory Pre-Trip Meeting: Wednesday February 20. (7pm in office 1014 in the Sport Club)
Deadline to Sign Up: Tuesday, February 19

Stand Up Paddleboarding in Santa Cruz (2)Elephant Seals aka awesome
 
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a fun, relaxing sport that has been gaining a lot of popularity over the past decade! We'll be heading over to the Santa Cruz harbor where we'll go over a quick lesson of how to stand up and paddle efficiently before heading out on a short tour around the harbor and the surrounding area. (The ability to swim is highly recommended, and everyone will be required to wear a life jacket).

Muir Woods Camping and Beach Adventure (2)Elephant Seals aka awesome
 
Wander around the cinematic scenery of Muir Woods National Monument, where movies like Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Planet of the Apes, and Jurassic Park were filmed. We'll be camping near the coast, giving us a chance to explore beautiful redwood forests as well as enchanting beaches! Be ready to hike roughly 5 miles a day with awesome people and amazing views!

Learn to Surf in Santa Cruz (2)Elephant Seals aka awesome
 
It's time to hang ten and shred some gnarly waves with Outdoor Adventures! We'll head over to Santa Cruz (also known as "Surf City") where we'll receive professional instruction on how to catch waves, stand up, and channel our inner Laird Hamilton. The ability to swim is mandatory for this trip.

Año Nuevo Elephant Seal Hike (1)Elephant Seal
 
It is the heart of the elephant seal mating season, and we will be able to get the unique opportunity to see these massive (up to 6000 pound) animals up close as we wander through the sand dunes with our guide. This hike is roughly 2.5 miles, and we will be going rain or shine!Elephant Seals aka awesome

Backpacking Skills Course (Yosemite) (3+)Elephant Seals aka awesome
 
This trip will begin in Hetch Hetchy where we will launch ourselves into the backcountry of Yosemite and take our wilderness skills to the next level. In addition to soaking in all of the beauty Yosemite has to offer, the focus of this trip will be on leave no trace philosophy, camp craft, and trip planning. While no previous experience is necessary, you can expect to be physically challenged as we hike 8-12 miles each day over steep terrain with a 20-30 pound backpack.
