Program Requirements

The Moderate/Severe Disabilities Education Specialist Credential program prepares individuals to teach students from kindergarten through age 22 who have disabilities such as autism, deaf-blindness, moderate to sever mental retardation, multiple disabilities, and emotional disturbances.

Coursework covers the areas of functional assessment, curriculum, instructional practices, methods for inclusive education, communication strategies, collaboration skills, and positive behavior support.  The credential program has two parts:  Level I coursework lays the foundation and is followed by Level II coursework after the individual obtains a job and applies for the Level I Credential.

The Master of Art's degree in Education is a 30 units program that emphasizes special education practices with a majority of the coursework taken in special education.
