FAQs
Student Teaching
What is the difference between student-teaching and directed teaching?
- In student-teaching you are placed in the class of a Master Teacher
that works with students with the disability for which you seek credentialing.
- Directed teaching is for individuals who have been hired with emergency
permits or intern credentials. You are observed as you conduct the
activities of a full time sepcial educator.
May I do my student teaching in a private school?
You may student teach in a non-public school if the school is accredited
and the students you serve are of the disability group for which you
are seeking to be credentialed. However, because of ongoing changes
in legislation related to teacher certification, you should check with
the department's program coordinator.
What if I have to move to another area in the state?
You must then seek the closest CSU and request permission to do student-teaching
or directed teaching with them. The department chair, and/or the program
coordinator will give you a memo to take to them.
Can I do my student teaching at any school?
Only at accredited school within our service area that serve the population
for which you seek a credential.
Is it possible to have student teaching waived?
