Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Special Education! Here you will find the information and overview of our various programs offered, minimum requirements necessary for eligibility and the general admissions process.

We offer coursework and field experiences that lead to the Education Specialist Instruction Credential in the following areas*:

  • Mild to Moderate Disabilities
  • Moderate to Severe Disabilities
  • Early Childhood Special Education

* The Deaf and Hard of Hearing credential program is currently on hiatus. We are not admitting students into the program for the 2011-2012 year.

Candidates can choose to complete a credential program as an Intern, which allows them employment as a first year special education teacher while enrolled in courses in the Intern Program.

The Concurrent Option is designed to result in a Preliminary Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential and an Education Specialist Instruction Preliminary Credential in Mild to Moderate Disabilities.

There are also opportunities to earn a Masters in Education with a concentration in Special Education from the department.

All prospective students are highly encouraged to attend an Orientation.
