How To Apply


 Minimum Requirements

In order to be eligible for any of our programs in the Special Education Department, applicants must meet all of the following requirements.

Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 for Education Specialist Credential Programs (Please keep in mind that those that are admitted into the program MUST maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to file a Education Specialist Instruction Credential)
  • Certificate of Clearance
  • CSET (3 sections)

Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Special Education

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Certificate of Clearance 
  • MA Writing Assessment or GRE Analytical Writing (passing score of 4.0 score or better) 



ALL of the following must be completed by the Admission Deadline to be considered into a program of interest:

Step 1. Admission to the University Graduate Studies

  1. Apply ONLINE at CAL State Apply. There will be a $55 application fee.
  2. Submit one officially sealed trancript from each college where you studied. If you completed your undergraduate at San Jose State University, you do NOT need to submit your own SJSU transcript. Send or deliver transcript to:

Step 2. Admission to the Department of Special Education

1. Attend an Orientation

2. Complete Department Application

3. Send Department Application to:
