Admitted Spartan Day 2015
The Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR) team has been busy getting us ready to welcome more
than 3,500 admitted students and 7,000 family members for the 2015 Admitted Spartan Day. This year’s annual event includes an event welcome, as well as campus tours, informational
workshops, a campus resource fair comprised of over 80 departments and student organizations,
opportunities to conduct business on campus, and College academic open houses. For
more information about the day's schedule, visit Admitted Spartan Day: Prepare to Welcome Over 10,000 Visitors to Campus.
Federal Loan Programs
May 1 is the deadline for all Fall 2014–Spring 2015 loans (i.e. Subsidized/Unsubsidized, Perkins and Direct PLUS Loan) to be accepted on-line through MySJSU to be eligible for disbursement during this academic year. Loans for Summer 2015 attendance will have a different timeline.
Financial Aid File Completion Date for Fall 2015–Spring 2016
The 2015-16 award is based on the submission and completion of items posted on students' To Do List within MySJSU. All requested financial aid documents must be submitted by 4:30 pm on Friday, May 29 to be considered for maximum funding. View, Seven Steps to Financial Aid for an overview of the financial aid process.
New Federal Student Aid ID to Replace the Federal Student Aid PIN
The Department of Education has implemented a new login process for financial aid applicants to access FAFSA on the web, NSLDS, Student Access, StudentLoans.gov, StudentAid.gov, and the TEACH grant websites. There is nothing required to do before the change. Notification of the new process will be provided upon logging into these websites beginning April 26.
SAP Petition Due Dates
Students who currently have a hold on their financial aid disbursement for not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) must submit the petition of appeal no later than Friday, April 10 for committee consideration. For more information, view the What is satisfactory academic progress website?
Applications are currently open for 2015–16 scholarships. The Financial Aid & Scholarship Office administers three types of scholarships: SJSU campus based, department based, and private based. A total of 1,686 scholarships were awarded in 2014–15, and we anticipate a similar number for 2015–16. Students are encouraged to apply for as many scholarships as possible to lessen the need for loans or part-time work to attend school. While some scholarships are need-based, a number of scholarships are merit-based. The Financial Aid & Scholarship Office is utilizing a new scholarship management program this Spring, AcademicWorks, which we hope will be more user-friendly for applicants as well as university employees involved in administering the scholarships. Information on applying for scholarships is available online.
The Financial Aid Application Process begins on Wednesday, April 8 for students who have
questions regarding financial aid eligibility for enrollment during this term. For
more information, view the summer financial aid website.
Paperless Process for
Petitions to Degree Candidacy
The Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluation Office has begun the planning and designing of a paperless process for handling graduate student petitions for advancement to candidacy and graduation. Director Tricia Foust is working with the Student Affairs IT team to explore ways to streamline the process of preparing students for graduation. This is all in the effort to reduce paper processing and to create an online medium of communication between the university graduate programs office, all respective graduate program offices on campus, and of course, our graduate student community.
Uptick in Potential May Graduates
Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluation has received well over 1,600 potential May graduates who will be reviewed for receiving their Master's degrees for May 2015. This is up from 1,400 last year. Great work SJSU Graduate Students!
