Call our AEC mainline at 408.924.6000 to schedule an intake appointment to determine eligibility to register for AEC services. Remember to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to fill out your intake form and bring with you your disability documentation. Don’t have any documentation? Don’t Worry. We are excited to offer FOUR career fairs this Fall! We kick off our fairs on September 10 with the Fall ’15 Accounting Job & Internship Fair, followed by the Fall ’15 Business & Government Job & Internship Fair on September 29th; the Fall ’15 Engineering & Science Job & Internship Fair on September 30th*; and the Nonprofit & Public Service Job Fair on October 20. Log in to SpartaJobs for the full list of participating employers and available opportunities. Be sure to view our Job Fair Success Webshop or attend a live Job Fair Success Workshop to gain your competitive edge and stand out in the crowd! No early bird passes are required this semester for any of the fairs.

Counseling and Psychological Services


 

Student Wellness CenterWelcome

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is happy to announce our new location on the 3rd Floor, Room 300B, of the brand new Student Wellness Center, located on the corner of 7th and San Carlos (across from the Event Center). Come take a look at our new beautiful space. We also have extended hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our semester hours are: Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am–4:30pm and Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30am–5:30pm.

New Counselors

Each year, CAPS welcomes a new group of doctoral-level counselor trainees, who help to provide much needed counseling services for SJSU students. This year, we are happy to welcome this wonderful group that comes from across the nation:

  • Predoctoral interns — Liang Liao, Ronald Ma, Polina Shamariyeva, Jason Wu
  • Postdoctoral residents — Drs. Dianna Quach and Amanda Walters

CAPS GroupsNew Groups and Workshops

Please make sure to visit our website periodically where you will find updated information regarding our FREE lifeskills groups and workshops. We are here to help students succeed academically, personally, and interpersonally!

Groups are often the most effective way to

  • gain support and encouragement from others;
  • learn how you are perceived by others;
  • gain specific skills to improve your life;
  • develop relational skills.

Our workshops are designed to improve your academic and personal success at SJSU. We offer the Bronze, Silver and Gold level certificates (all FREE!). Participate in any 3 sessions and receive a Bronze Certificate, 6 sessions will gain a Silver Certificate and 9 sessions will gain a Gold Certificate.

Register as space is limited and workshops with low registration may be cancelled. We will accept walk-ins if space is available. These workshops are for SJSU students only and are wheelchair accessible. If you need other accommodations, please contact us at: Counseling and Psychological Services, 300B Student Wellness Center, 408.924.5910.

We have hired a new person to support the Office of Military and Veteran Student Services. Please welcome Marco Ybarra, our new Veterans Certifying Official! He is a recent San José State University graduate (Fall 2014) and a Veteran. We are so excited to have him come aboard and assist our military students. Please stop by and introduce yourself, in 265 Administration Building.

Combat PapermakingCombat Papermaking Workshop

We are really excited to be able to bring Combat Paper's Drew Cameron and his amazing work to campus in this 2-day paper making workshop! Save the DATES!

Through papermaking workshops, veterans use their uniforms worn in service to create works of art. The uniforms are cut up, beaten into a pulp and formed into sheets of paper. Participants use the transformative process of papermaking to reclaim their uniforms as art and express their experiences with the military.

Student FairnessJoin the Student Fairness Committee

The Student Fairness Committee is recruiting student members for the 2015–16 academic year. Students on the committee work side-by-side with Faculty and Staff to hear student grievances and grade disputes, and recommend appropriate remedies. At the conclusion of each semester, qualifying students are eligible for Advance Registration. 

Interested students are encouraged to complete the

 Student Health Center


 

Student Wellness Center ReceptionCheck-Out Our New Location

The Student Health Center has moved into the beautiful new Student Wellness Center along with Counseling and Psychological Services. The SHC provides medical care to students enrolled at SJSU. In addition to treating acute conditions, injuries, and illnesses, the Health Center provides a family planning program and maintains an in-house licensed pharmacy, a physical therapy department, a federally certified high complexity laboratory, and an x-ray department. Other services include preventive care (including nutrition services, immunizations, women's health), dermatology, sports medicine, psychiatry/mental health, travel medicine, and services for transgender students. Through Wellness and Health Promotion, students can access a range of wellness workshops, events, and services, which include: massage chairs, condom-coop (free supplies), meditation space, cooking demos, and much more! All are invited to stop by an Open House on August 26, 10am–2pm where we will offer tours and showcase the many student services available.

Title IX logoRequired Sexual Assault Prevention Education for All Incoming Students

All incoming domestic students will receive a notification through their MySJSU accounts on July 23 with details on how to access the online course Haven: Understanding Sexual Assault. Additionally, all incoming undergraduates must take AlcoholEdu. International students will receive the same notice on August 11, closer to their arrival time in this country. Due to strict federal mandates and CSU Executive Orders, a spring registration hold will be placed on students who do not complete their assigned courses. More information along with an FAQ section can be found on our website.

Spartapalooza swagSave the Date: Spartapalooza Wellness Festival

Spartapalooza, SJSU’s annual wellness festival, has moved to the Fall. This year's festivities will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 10:00am–2:00pm in the Student Union Ballroom. Student organizations, campus departments, and academic classes can still reserve a booth at the event! To participate please complete the registration form by Thursday, September 10, 2015. For more information please contact Anna Ang at 408.924.6202. To support student wellness we invite faculty to provide extra credit for attendance (students will have a passport they can submit as proof of attendance).

Wellness and Health Promotion Calendar of Events

If the variety of programming is any indication students should be feeling very well during Fall 2015. Please visit the Wellness Website and click on the blue “WHP Programming” button for a list of confirmed events and presentations. Reminder: 50 Peer Health Educators are available to deliver evidence-based workshops on a variety of topics. To make a request, visit our website and click on the green “Request a Presentation” button.
