Fall 2016 Undergraduate Admissions Cycle
SJSU will open for Fall 2016 admission on October 1 and close on November 30, 2015. Students apply at csumentor.edu and can contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or call 408-283-7500. Last year SJSU received 30,634 first time freshman applications and 16,451 upper division transfer applications. Our Student Outreach & Recruitment (SOAR) Team is currently on the road attending over 200 high school, community college and regional events to encourage students to apply to SJSU. On September 12, SOAR team members attended the American Indian Heritage Celebration for the first time. This fall we are returning to the Feria de Educacion at Sacramento State, Univision Feria de Educacion at CSU Dominguez Hills and A Taste of Soul in Southern California. Thank you for helping us to encourage qualified students to apply to SJSU for Fall 2016.
As a result of changes to our impaction plan made to support timely graduation, SJSU will be giving admission preference to upper division transfers who have completed identified major preparation coursework and/or completed an Associate Degree for Transfer in specific programs/majors. The list of majors and coursework is available on the impaction website. While the courses and/or Associate Degree for Transfer are not an admission requirement, applicants who have completed them will be given preference. For example, an applicant who has completed one or more of the courses will be given preference over other applicants who have the same GPA. Similarly, if two applicants have completed the same number of major preparation courses, preference will be given to the applicant with the higher GPA.
SJSU will require all upper division transfer applicants to complete a supplemental application shortly after the application period has ended. Students will receive several communications regarding the requirement to complete the supplemental application. Applicants will confirm the information submitted through CSUMentor including Associate Degrees for Transfer as well as identify major preparation coursework if they are applying to one of the programs giving preference to these applicants. For questions or more information, please contact email@example.com or call 408-283-7500.
Fall 2015 Direct Loan Deadline
December 1 will be the last day to accept a Fall 2015 Direct Loan within MySJSU. This
includes the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan,
Federal PLUS Loan and Grad PLUS Loan.
Middle Class Scholarships
Middle Class Scholarships from the California Student Aid Commission for the 2015–2016
school year are beginning to be awarded. This program provides undergraduate students
with family incomes up to $150,000 and a maximum household asset amount of $150,000,
a scholarship to attend California State University campuses. Other criteria are considered
in the awarding process.
The Federal Perkins Loan program is being discontinued after October 1, as the program
was not renewed by Congress. Lack of congressional action is expected to end funding on September 30, 2015 for
the low-interest Federal Perkins Loan program. Universities and colleges, including
San José State University, are not allowed to make Federal Perkins Loans to new borrowers
after this date. New borrowers may be awarded a Perkins Loan for 2015–16, but not
in future years. It is important for students to sign their master promissory note
in MySJSU so the loan can be disbursed by September 30. If new borrowers do not sign
the note, they will not receive a Perkins Loan.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Hold Appeals
November 13 will be the the last day to submit the appeal for students with a Satisfactory Academic Progress hold for the Fall term. Students who appeal after this date will be considered for Spring 2016 financial aid only.
Advancement to Candidacy Deadline
October 1 is our largest filing deadline for advancement to candidacy. Students filing
in the Fall are slated to graduate May 2016. Questions about this deadline and requirements
can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please visit our Candidacy and Graduation Deadlines website for more information.
December 2015 Graduation
The GAPE Office is currently accepting applications for December 2015 graduation.
For assistance, please contact email@example.com. Please visit our Candidacy and Graduation Deadlines website for more information.
