First Annual Spartan Family Weekend
Begins a New SJSU Tradition

At the end of October, New Student and Family Programs welcomed parents and family members to campus for the first-ever Spartan Family Weekend. At this event, students and their families had the opportunity to learn more about the campus through tours, a library open house, tabling and workshops led by campus partners and a showcase of student talent during the opening reception. In the evening, students and their families were able to participate in an outdoor tailgate with games in the Spartan Village tailgating area next to CEFCU Stadium, before cheering on the Spartans to victory in the football game against UNLV.

More than 50 families participated in the weekend’s events and especially enjoyed the opportunity to feel part of the Spartan family and more connected to campus. For future Spartan Family Weekends, announcements of dates and activities will be made during orientation and other transition events to help boost attendance for this annual event.

A special thanks goes out to partners across campus that helped make this year’s event a success, including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Spartan Athletics, Student Outreach and Recruitment, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Student Union, the Career Center and Associated Students.
