Foster Youth Task Force

Dontae Lartigue, Psychology, and Michael Morales, Social Work, are two current Guardian Scholars who serve on the newly established Foster Youth Task Force for Santa Clara County. The task force is a joint effort between Santa Clara County and the County Office of Education to ensure the success of foster youth in the areas of education, health, housing and employment. Dontae and Michael have both been active in policy work around foster youth since beginning their journey at SJSU in Fall 2016. We would like to acknowledge their commitment and excitement for this work.

Foster Care Awareness Month

May is foster care awareness month. This campaign focuses on the year round needs of youth in care and encourages citizens to get involved in the lives of these youth. Guardian scholars at San José State University are more than just a statistic who beat the odds. They are a thriving group of individuals with goals and ambitions. They are a close knit community who support one another through academic and personal needs. The Guardian Scholars Program is grateful for both campus and community involvement in the efforts that enrich the lives of our students.

2017 EOP Honors Brunch and EOP Graduation Ceremonies

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is excited to celebrate our high achieving and graduating students this May!

The 2017 EOP Honors Brunch, to be held on Saturday, May 6, will celebrate our largest number of EOP Honors students. We are proud to announce that 382 of our students have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above. The increase in EOP Honors recipients is a testament to the support services of the Educational Opportunity Program and San José State University.

The 2017 EOP Graduation Ceremony, to be held on May 23, will commemorate the largest number of graduating EOP students to date. The ceremony will celebrate EOP students who earned their degree in Fall 2016 or will finish their degree requirements in Spring and Summer 2017. For the 2017 EOP Graduation Ceremony, we invited 403 students and have had to move our ceremony into the Student Union Ballroom to accommodate the larger number of graduating students. EOP has also awarded via raffle 10 EOP students with a cap and gown this spring. EOP is proud to support the increased retention and graduation rates of our students.
