Student Rights (For Students and Student Employees)

San José State University is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination. These principles permeate all facets of University life: in the admission, housing and education of students; in policies and practices governing programs of extracurricular life and activities; and in the employment of faculty, staff, and students. Discrimination of any kind, including, but not limited to age, ancestry, color, creed, disability, marital status, medical condition, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation, is an affront to the entire University community and is strictly prohibited.

Discrimination Complaints:

Students who are not employees should follow the complaint guidelines outlined in Presidential Directive 2007-07 and complete the Complaint Form (PDF). For more information, contact the Human Resources Office of Equal Opportunity. Phone: 408-924-2250 or see Complaint Procedures.

Represented student employees in Unit 11 should follow the complaint guidelines outlined in Executive Order 928 (PDF) for Informal Level complaints; they should follow the complaint guidelines outlined in Article 10 Grievance Procedures of the CFA Collective Bargaining Agreement for Formal Level complaints. Please refer to the Office of Faculty Affairs for assistance.

In both cases, a Complaint Form (PDF) should be completed.
