Susie Morris | Director of Study Abroad and AwaySusie Morris | Director of Study Abroad and Away

Susie joined San Jose State University in January 2016 to serve as the Director of Study Abroad and Away in the College of Professional and Global Education.

As a linguist at heart (she studied Russian, Czech, Polish, French, Spanish, and Thai), Susie found a natural pathway to a career in international education.

In addition to running study abroad programs for over a decade, Susie lived abroad for 12 years, teaching Bachelor’s and Master's level courses focusing on Cross-cultural Communication and English language acquisition in Thailand, Russia, Spain and the U.S.


gei director Susie holds a BA in Russian from the University of Iowa and a MA in International Education with a focus on Intercultural Development from the SIT Graduate Institute. She says her passion is promoting “greater intercultural understanding, community collaboration, and positive relationships between students and the rest of the world.”

Susie loves to travel and meet people from different cultures. In her spare time, Susie loves listening to her record collection, spending time with her two fat cats, working jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and exploring the world.


Alaric TrousdaleAlaric Trousdale | Study Abroad Coordinator

Alaric Trousdale is a Study Abroad Coordinator who works with long-term programs in Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and North America. Alaric also serves as the ISEP program coordinator and is the primary contact for advising on ISEP programs.

Julie LucasJulie Lucas | Study Abroad Coordinator

Julie Lucas works closely with outbound study abroad students (SJSU programs and CSUIP programs), inbound exchange students, and collaborates with faculty and international partners to develop new programs. Julie is also a proud Chicago native! She studied abroad in Granada, Spain her junior year of college and earned a B.S. in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduation, she moved to Salamanca, Spain where she taught English and worked with students studying abroad in Spain. She then completed her M.A. in International Education Management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Before moving back to California, she worked with outbound study abroad students at a nonprofit organization in Chicago. Julie works with long-term SJSU programs in Europe, Africa, Central and South America. Julie is also the CSUIP Coordinator and is the primary contact for advising on CSUIP programs.

Vid-RaatiorDr. Vid Raatior | Study Abroad Program Specialist

 Born and raised in the Pacific Island nation of Micronesia, Vid     moved to the United States as an international college student   in 1982 and has been studying / living abroad since. He   completed a BA in communications from the University of   Guam, an M.A in educational administration from the University   of San Francisco, and an Ed.D from University of Hawai’i at   Manoa. His 20-year career in higher education has included   work as an international student advisor, assistant director of   study abroad, associate director of a multicultural learning center, and director of equity-focused student support services at Santa Clara University, University of Hawaii, and University of California Santa Cruz.

He is a Program Specialist for the Study Abroad & Away Office focusing on faculty led programs, summer school abroad, alternative spring break, and global internship & service learning opportunities. 

Vid lives in the Santa Cruz area, loves to watch his kids play volleyball, basketball, football, and golf....and if he has his ways he would barbecue every night while listening to reggae music.

Nicole BeckNicole Beck | Study Abroad Operations Coordinator

Nicole Beck is an Operations Coordinator for the Study Abroad and Away office. She focuses on short-term study abroad programs where she works closely with faculty members and outbound students.

Nicole holds a BA in Secondary Spanish Education from Auburn University, where she spent a semester of her sophomore year studying in Granada, Spain. She also holds a MA in International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS). During her last semester at MIIS she spent time working with a nonprofit organization in Managua, Nicaragua.

She was born and raised in South Alabama but now lives in Monterey where she loves to spend time at the beach with her family.

Brisdy CarilloBrisdy Carillo Vega | Student Assistant

Brisdy is currently majoring in International Business with a minor in Spanish.

She is motivated and enthusiastic about encouraging students to become more culturally aware by embracing different perspectives and experiences offered through studying abroad or away.

Additionally, as a student assistant she will be informing students about the programs the department offers through social media and school events.


Alycia Low | Student AssistantAlycia Low
Alycia studied abroad at University of Roehampton, London during Fall 2017 and was her first time going to Europe. She's studying public relations right now and working towards a minor in professional and technical writing. She was never able to have the away from home experience, like many people do, until she went abroad where she learned about independence, culture and confidence. Walking students through this cross-cultural experience is what Alycia loves about her job. She hopes to travel more after she graduates.

Jackie MondragonJackie Mondragon | Student Assistant
Jackie studied abroad at Toulouse Business School in Barcelona, Spain during Fall 2018. She is currently pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in international business. Jackie believes that it is imperative for students to have the opportunity to study abroad as it exposes them to other cultures and contributes to the necessary skills one needs to acquire in order to succeed in a competitive workforce environment. As a first generation study abroad student, she recognizes this experience has enhanced her interpersonal skills and has inspired her to assist prospective students by helping them select the program which suits them best.
