Faculty-Led Programs

At a time when it is more important than ever for students to gain a better understanding of the world in which they live, International Programs and Services (IPS) a department of the College of International and Extended Studies (CIES), seeks to expand the growing interest in study abroad and intercultural experiences.  Study abroad is quickly becoming an integral part of the higher education curriculum.  However financial and time constraints hinder access to international experiences for many college students and faculty.  Under the auspices of IPS, Faculty-Led Programs allow students and faculty the opportunity to participate in international education endeavors.

The programs are also intended to:

  • Meet the financial constraints of many SJSU students.
  • Provide short-term study abroad opportunities to SJSU students
  • Create a culture in which learning across cultural boundaries is an essential component of academic preparation
  • Internationalize the SJSU campus and its curriculum

IPS has developed policies and procedures for the university to assist faculty in producing and executing safe and successful short-term study abroad programs.  The Faculty-Led Program Coordinator works closely with faculty to support them in program planning, marketing and promotion and logistics.
