Singapore is an island of less than 700 sq. km. with few natural resources. Yet is has beaten the odds to become an economic powerhouse. A financial hub and the world’s busiest port, Singapore has one of the largest oil refining and distributing centers in the world. The city-state boasts 14,000 multinational corporations, a large majority of which are regional headquarters. When it comes to education, Singapore invests heavily in research and development of the biomedical sciences, physical sciences and engineering industries as well as the promotion of the city-state as a financial center and regional education hub. Singapore continues to evolve and reinvent itself. Today, it is fast being accepted as the Asian playground of the rich and famous, with the staging of global events such as the prestigious Formula 1 night race and attractions like the two integrated resorts.
