Program Overview

Undergo archaeological training that combines field recovery of data, site mapping, artifact collection and test excavations. Students will also actively document and identify artifact types, conduct surveys, and participate in all phases of archaeological site documentation.

Please Note:

Participants must be able to engage in strenuous activity in very warm and humid environmental conditions. We work under tropical canopy. Temperature at this time of year hovers around 85 degrees f. and it rains frequently. You must be able to lift 50 pounds and be willing to hike up to three miles daily.

Country Facts

The water temperature is usually 87 degrees at our favorite beach. Temps drop at night to the high 70s. St. Kitts and Nevis is a developing Caribbean nation consisting of two islands.

Eligibility

Prerequisites:

ANTH 13 or Instructor Consent. All interested students can apply with instructor's consent. 

Accommodation, Safety and Visas

Accommodations:
The crew will be housed in a large guest house, dormitory style with a common room and kitchen. Separate bathrooms for male and female crew. Rooms are cooled by ceiling fans and tropical breezes. Meals will be prepared by project staff and clean up is assisted by participants. We have a large veranda for evening meetings and refreshments. Overlooking a valley, we can on occasion see across the sea to Antigua.

Visa:
When traveling by air, U.S. citizens must have a valid U.S. passport.
