Current & Future Projects
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s next in campus sustainability at SJSU:
New Construction Projects
Both the expanded Student Union and the new Student Health & Counseling Facility will meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification standards. Each building will include water-efficient fixtures, a “cool” roof, and recycled water for toilet flushing.
Building Renovations
Several key university landmarks, including Tower Hall, King Library, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and Spartan Stadium will be renovated for improved energy efficiency and overall sustainability.
Solar PV Panels
SJSU Mechanical Engineering students conducted a feasibility study and five potential buildings were identified for rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, which could generate a total of 1 million kWh each year.
Recycled Water Projects
Working with the City of San Jose, SJSU is working to convert all irrigation piping, as well as toilets in the King Library and other new buildings, to recycled water, which could save up to 65 million gallons of potable water each year.
