About Us

Operated by SJSU's Department of Kinesiology in cooperation with the County of Santa Clara, the Timpany Center is an accessible physical activity and therapeutic recreation center.

Originally dedicated in September of 1979 in the memory of Dr. C. Russell Timpany, County Superintendent of Schools, the center was designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. Today, Timpany Center boasts a 100,000 gallon warm-water pool, spa, gymnasium, weight room, classroom, and research lab.

Mission Statement

The Timpany Center’s mission is to provide, through multi-agency involvement and San José State University student service learning, inclusive aquatic and land-based activities that target the promotion of physical health and wellness in individuals with disabilities, obesity, and/or advanced age from the greater Santa Clara County community.
