About UsThe Tower Foundation is San José State University’s auxiliary organization dedicated solely to philanthropy. Its primary mission is to build bridges with alumni and friends by improving services, stewardship and donor support. The Foundation encourages private gifts, trusts, and bequests for the benefit of San José State and manages the university’s endowment to achieve maximum returns. Developing and Stewarding DonationsSan José State receives over $27 million annually in outright and deferred gifts. These gifts are contributed to the Tower Foundation as cash, stock, equipment and other in-kind donations or through wills and bequests. They support a vast array of student scholarships as well as vibrant programs such as the CADRE Laboratory for New Media, the Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies, the Biotech Masters Program, the Cypress String Quartet, and many other research laboratories and facilities. At over $40 million, SJSU’s endowment is an important investment in the university. Endowment dollars are vital to San José State because they generate income, a portion of which is available year after year to sustain the highest quality of education and research. Many unique opportunities are made available through endowed support. Here at SJSU, they create permanent support for student scholarships, academic chairmanships or fellowships, and allow us to attract strong, vital talent to the university. The Tower Foundation works closely with the University Advancement Division to increase contributions and establish University fundraising goals. Together, these two entities provide the mechanism by which San José State generates support from the private sector. The University Advancement team is responsible for direct solicitation of gifts from alumni, corporations, and foundations. The Division maintains all alumni and donor records, provides stewardship of donors and gifts, and develops communication materials and services.
