Presentation & Panel Discussion: "Transfigurations"
The
award-winning
photodocumentary
by
Jana
Marcus
Location: University Room
In large black and white images with text, Marcus' photographs focus on
what it
means to be a man and a woman, by people who have transitioned to the
opposite
sex, blurring the lines of gender separation, stereotyping, and
discovering
cultural influences.
(edit) A slide show of the 60-piece national award-winning exhibition
will be
shown. Marcus will be on hand with participants of the show to give a
lecture
and Q&A on the making of the project and its impact.

Film Screening - Diagnosing
Difference
Location: Engineering
Building, Room 189
Historically,
non-trans
medical
and mental health care professionals have positioned
themselves as the "experts" on transgender experience, creating
standards, guidelines, and diagnoses that inform legal policies and
mediate every aspect of life. Diagnosing Difference shifts the
focus to explore the many complexities of the diagnosis from the
perspectives of those it affects most directly and
personally, including access to medical care, legal ramifications,
social stigma, implications for psychotherapeutic care, treatment
trauma, and differences in experience based on factors like race,
class, gender orientation, and generation.
Complimentary snacks and refreshments
provided.
This is a free event.
