Summer Transition Programs
The Spartan Scholars Program is a summer transition experience that provides 200+ incoming SJSU freshmen with the tools and resources to complete math and English remediation while learning to successfully transition into their first year at the university. Participants seize a fully funded 5-week residential academic experience that prepares them for college by providing an introduction to campus support services and resources; developing writing, communication, time management, and leadership skills; and connecting participants to professors and peers.
All program participants receive a summer scholarship that covers the full cost of this transition experience, which includes: 5 weeks of housing, meals, summer tuition, academic supplies, tutoring, a laptop, social activities, laundry, public transportation, health center fee, gym use fee, and mentoring.
Orientation and Transition
Orientation and Transition Programs at San Jose State University provides programming and services designed to assist first-year and transfer students with a successful transition to San Jose State University. Students are assisted with class registration, obtaining parking and housing, and learning to navigate their way through the campus. In addition, students have the opportunity to meet other SJSU students, faculty, and staff to better prepare for the start of their college experience.
Spartan Parents and Families
Parent/guardian support is crucial to the success of incoming students, which is why we provide the Spartan Parent and Family Program. Our Spartan Parent and Family Programs offer parents/guardians an opportunity to obtain the resources and information necessary to best support their student(s) during their time at SJSU. Parents/guardians will be able to connect with other families and our SJSU community through these programs.
