About Chairs & Directors
Chairs and directors at San José State University fulfill many roles and functions for the university. As leaders in the organization, chairs and directors serve as liaisons between faculty and administration. Chairs and directors support faculty in professional development, promote high quality student advising, work with faculty on student retention and graduation initiatives, develop and maintain productive alumni relationships, administer their units' budgets, and a long list of other activities that would go on for several screens.
To find out more about what chairs and directors do, as well as issues associated with their workload and responsibilities, read the 2004 Report of the Academic Senate Task Force on Department Chairs (.pdf) .
