Providing excellence in customer service to faculty, staff, students and potential SJSU employees is the most effective way to help and care for those requiring services from Human Resources.



Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs

The AVP for Faculty Affairs (AVPFA) oversees the office staff dedicated to ensure faculty success and advancement starting with recruitment and hiring through the retention, tenure and promotion process. The AVPFA supports faculty entering the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) and eventually to retirement. The AVP for Faculty Affairs works closely with the Chief Diversity Officer to promote SJSU's commitment to continue to diversify the faculty.


Senior Director

The Senior Director manages the Workforce Planning, Training and HR Information Systems units, ensuring effective workflow and processing related to recruitment, on boarding, classification and compensation, as well as fee waiver, training, special events and PeopleSoft HR.




Director, Office for Equal Opportunity & Employee Relations

The Director of the Office for Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations manages both units and ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements and policies. The Director is also responsible for investigating complaints and providing campuswide leadership related to equal opportunity and employee relations.


Senior Director, Academic Employee Relations

The Senior Director of Academic Employee Relations administers the collective bargaining agreements for faculty (Unit 3) and academic student employees (Unit 11), providing advice and training for staff, department chairs and administrators on the agreements. The Senior Director investigates, hears, and prepares responses to grievances and interprets, develops, and disseminates policies related to academic personnel issues.



Manager, Benefits and Payroll

The Manager of Benefits and Payroll manages all functions related to employee payroll and benefits, including acting as a liaison with the State Controller's Office and the California Public Employees Retirement System.




Manager, Employee & Labor Relations

The Manager of Employee and Labor Relations works closely with diverse labor unions to ensure the employer-employee relationship is collaborative and collegial while ensuring compliance with respective collective bargaining agreements. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for advising management on personnel matters and investigates complaints related to employee relations or policy violations.
