School is back in session and our more than 30,000 students are once again filling classrooms, reminding us why we’re here. This looks to be another great semester as we welcome more freshmen than ever and many new faculty and staff. Be on the lookout for your fellow Spartans who need extra help navigating our ever-changing campus landscape and finding their way around.
Also, make sure to check the SJSU Events Calendar regularly, as there are many events on campus.
Spotlight On The Cabinet:
Director of Athletics, Marie Tuite
We're pleased to shine the spotlight on San José State’s new Director of Athletics, Marie Tuite. Marie has been with the university since 2010 and is excited to bring her vision to Spartan Athletics and its more than 450 student-athletes competing at the highest level. Read on to get to know Marie…

Q. Where are you from?
A: I was born two blocks from Tiger Stadium in Detroit, Michigan.
Q. What are your hobbies?
A: I’m like most hard-working Spartans in that I don’t have a ton of discretionary time for hobbies, but I do love to exercise and enjoy pretty much anything outdoors.
Q. What is your favorite food?
A: Food isn’t a huge priority for me. But, I would say eating John Poch’s cooking is, by far, my favorite cuisine.
Q. What impresses you most about the SJSU community?
A: We grow the most when we are surrounded by people who are different than we are. I’m impressed each day by the countless people from different backgrounds that come together to support the mission of San José State.
Q. What one thing do you wish everyone knew about SJSU?
A: As a faculty or staff member you get FOUR FREE TICKETS to every home athletic event. Bring your Tower Card, your family and friends and come watch your Spartans!
Q. What is your high-level vision for SJSU in the coming year?
A: I have this vision to integrate and engage Athletics with the entire campus community. Most of our athletic programs are located 1.3 miles south of campus and I want to bridge that gap by becoming part of the fabric of the main campus.
Q: What do you love the most about being the Director of Athletics?
A: Easy question…every single day I get to see and talk to student-athletes. They are motivated, smart, funny, and they keep me young. I care deeply about their experience and I love being a part of their lives. Spartan Up!
Paychecks for New Faculty
As a reminder, new faculty members will get their first paycheck on October 2nd. Continuing faculty will get a check on September 1st. See the 2017 Master Payroll Calendar (.pdf) on our website for pay dates and holidays through December.
See the Spartans for FREE!
As Marie mentioned in her spotlight profile, all faculty and staff can get four free tickets to any Spartan home game during the regular season. Just bring your Tower Card and your friends and family to the designated gate or window and you’re in! Take advantage of this amazing offer to cheer on our more than 450 Spartan student-athletes!
