Undergraduate Minor Requirements

The program leading to the undergraduate Minor in Urban Studies consists of 15 semester units. There is one required course (URBP 101: The City). In addition students must take 9 units from approved Urban and Regional Planning courses, and 3 units from approved courses in other departments.

To apply for the Minor in Urban Studies, please download and complete the application form.

The detailed program requirements are as follows (all individual courses are 3 units unless otherwise specified):

  • URBP 111: Urbanization in Developing Countries
  • URBP 120: Introduction to Housing
  • URBP 123: Historical Preservation and Neighborhood Revival
  • URBP 124: Urban Systems
  • URBP 127: Urban Native American Issues
  • URBP 133: Introduction to Social Planning
  • URBP 136: Introduction to Land Use and Facilities Planning
  • URBP 142: Introduction to Environmental Planning
  • URBP 145: Urban Policy and Its Impact on Inner City Residents
  • URBP 151: Introduction to Urban Design
  • URBP 152: Introduction to Urban Design Studio
  • URBP 169: Introduction to Computers in Planning
  • URBP 175: Urban Studies Topics (specific course topics vary by semester)
  • URBP 178: Introduction to Transportation and Urban Planning
  • URBP 179: Urban Geographic Information Systems
  • URBP 185: Environmental Impact Analysis (4 units)
