Adult Special Admission

If you are an adult 25 or older who wishes to attend San José State University, but hesitates because of the length of time out of school, old test scores, etc., there is a special admission review process designed for you.   Through the Adult Special Admission Program, you may be able to gain admission to the university despite not meeting regular admission requirements.

 

PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING

 

1.    Speak with an Admission Counselor to determine whether or not you meet the regular admission requirements.   If not, discuss the possibility of pursuing the Adult Exception option.   For information about opportunities to receive counseling in person, please refer to the Pre-Admission Counseling page of thehttp://www.sjsu.edu/visit website.   You may also reach a counselor by calling (408) 924-2564 or e-mailing outreach@sjsu.edu.

2.    S ubmit an online application at http://www.csumentor.edu .   Submit payment of the $55 application fee via credit card, check, or money order.

3.    Contact Admission Services (408) 283-7500 and submit a written request to be considered for the Adult Exception by emailing admissions@sjsu.edu, or via postal mail, to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (listed below).

4.    Send official transcripts from high school and all colleges attended to the following postal address:

5.    We highly encourage you to also submit the following documents to support your file:

·      A letter which contains a short autobiography, previous successful experiences, motivation for attending SJSU, and educational goals.

·      Two letters of reference from former instructors, employers, etc.

·      Standardized test score reports, if taken (e.g., SAT I or ACT) .

 

NOTE    Application does not guarantee admission.   Submitting the supporting documents may substantially increase your chances of being granted admission.

6.    Check your e-mail for User I.D. and Password to log intohttp://my.sjsu.edu.   Use the MySJSU website to check your “admission status”, “To Do List”, and to view “messages".   Be sure to adhere to all admission deadlines, especially the final document deadline.

7.   I f needed, research your options for financial aid viahttp://www.sjsu.edu/depts/finaid or speak with a Financial Aid Counselor by calling (408) 283-7500.

8.    Depending on your level of education upon entry to San Jose State University, placement exams may be required prior to registering for classes.   Please go tohttps://testing.sjsu.edu for more information.

9.    If admitted, attend the Admitted Student Reception, as well as an orientation program.
