Over Sixty Fee Waiver Program

If you are aCalifornia resident who is at least 60 years of age, you may qualify for a fee waiver that will exempt you from payment of the admission application fee and most registration fees.  You would be open to attending any regular class for which you have the prerequisites completed; on a space-available basis.  You could work towards a graduate or undergraduate degree, for credit or not; it is your choice.  You would also have access to counseling and support services from SJSU's Counseling Services office.

ELIGIBILITY

q       Be 60 years of age or older by the residence determination date

q       California resident

q       Meet all regular admission requirements

q       Submit application and meet deadlines

PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING    

1.     Complete a paper application for admission, marking “Over Sixty Program” on the first page, and send to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.  A copy of the paper application can be downloaded from http://www.csumentor.edu.  Please note, online applications are highly encouraged because of their accuracy and how quickly they can be processed.  If you apply online, send a letter to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions identifying yourself as an Over Sixty Program participant.

2.     Do not pay the $55 application fee.  Check the box that says you will send in a check, but do NOT send in payment.  The application fee is waived for students in the Over Sixty Fee Waiver Program.

3.      Submit official copies of college and high school(*) transcripts to the address listed below.

    *High School transcripts are required if less than 60 semester units of transferable college credit have been completed.  If you have a high school GPA of less than 3.0, a standardized test score report will be required (SAT I or ACT).

4.      Check your e-mail for your User I.D. and Password to log into http://my.sjsu.edu.  Use the MySJSU website to check your “Admission Status”, “TO DO List”, and view “Messages”.

 

5.      Once you have been admitted, go to the first day of class and get an add code from the instructor, which you will use to register online via the MySJSU website.

 

6.      After you are registered, contact the Bursar’s Office to have your fees adjusted to reflect the Over Sixty Fee Waiver at (408) 924-1605.

 

7.   To access additional support services for Over Sixty students, please contact Counseling Services at (408)924-5910.

 

CONDITIONS:  There is no pre-registration; classes are available on a space-limited basis.  Students must be admitted to benefit; Open University and special sessions are excluded.  The fee waiver applies only to regular classes.
