Writing Fellows for 100w Courses

Student Job Opportunities
Writing Fellows for 100W Courses

Writing Fellows provide writing support for students enrolled in 100W courses all across campus. Working closely with individual faculty members, Writing Fellows help design, develop, and deliver writing instruction both inside and outside the classroom.

Each Writing Fellow is paired up with a faculty member teaching a 100W course and provides supplemental instruction for that course for the entire semester. Writing Fellows work five or ten hours per week (supporting one or two classes), on a flexible schedule worked out in advance with faculty members. This work time includes a paid bi-weekly staff meeting.

A Writing Fellow’s duties include

  • regularly meeting with faculty members to develop and deliver both in-class and outside-of-class writing support.
  • working with students in class.
  • meeting with students in small groups outside of class to facilitate discussion, peer review, and supplemental instruction sessions.
  • meeting with students individually to provide feedback on projects in all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming and organizing ideas to drafting and revising.
  • submitting regular written reports of activities to the faculty member and the coordinator of the Writing Fellows program.
