San José State University recognizes that the World Wide Web is an important electronic publication medium that facilitates its mission. It is in the interest of the university that all Web sites be maintained in a consistent manner so that they provide high quality information about the university's educational offerings, mission, programs and events to the community, prospective students, and the general public.
The Web sites serve as a gateway to university services, teaching and learning resources. Therefore, it is essential that Web sites of the University present an image that is unified, of a high quality and favorably represents the University.
We are currently in step 1.5 of the Web roadmap. We have formed a Web Oversight Committee to serve as a council to advise Academic Technology on Web related projects and policy.
The Web Oversight Committee has approved new templates that are Section 508 compliant. The new templates will be available for campus webmasters in November 2007. The Content Management System is being upgraded with new templates to comply with Section 508 requirements.
Launched in September 2003, the redesigned www.sjsu.edu website is the result of a project that started in 2001 and required the collaboration of dedicated individuals from on and off campus. The University's New Website Celebration event was held on Sept. 23, 2003 from 10 AM - 2 PM at the BBQ area across from the Events Center. In addition to celebrating the launch of the new Web site the University also celebrated the launch of its new Wireless Laptop Computing Project.
