Website Rollout Process

Outlined below is a typical roll-out process for sites using WebCMS:

Pre-content creation step

  1. Apply for a website (PDF). You will be contacted within 10 business days
  2. Web Services Unit works with site owner to develop initial information architecture. User accounts with appropriate level of access controls are created
  3. The new Web site is "handed off" to the site owner

Content Creation

  1. Site owner adds site content
  2. Site owner informs Web Services Unit that the site is ready to go live

Post-content creation steps

  1. Web Services Unit performs an initial website audit that includes testing for usability and accessibility.
  2. Feedback is provided on any issues to be resolved before proceeding to next steps
  3. Web Services Unit works with site owner to determine target launch date
  4. Site owner performs any necessary internal communication about URL and site changes
  5. Website goes live
  6. Old website is archived and taken off-line (if appropriate)
  7. URL redirections from old site to new site are set up (if needed)
  8. Website is added to the A-Z index (if required)
  9. Links in top level pages are updated (if required)
  10. Links in the links gallery are updated (if required)
  11. Website is cross-referenced from other top level pages (if appropriate)
  12. Search engine indexes new website
  13. Site owner continues to maintain website.
  14. Web Services Unit continues to provide assistance
