Website Builder FAQ
Getting Started
Q: How do I get a Website Builder account?
A: You can request an account by completing the Website Builder sign-up form
Q: How do I move my Web Wizard site to Website Builder?
A: All Spartan Faculty Wizard Web content was imported into Website Builder at 8:00 AM on March 2, 2009. If you made changes between then and the time Web Wizard logins were deactivated, you can contact Web Services to have your content re-imported.
The first time you publish your Website Builder website with the Courses module active, you will be alerted that you are about to make your Web Wizard site inactive. If you accept, your Web Wizard site will begin to automatically redirect to your new Website Builder site.
Q: How do I use Website Builder?
A: The Center for Faculty Development offers Website Builder workshops.
Common Problems
Q: Why do I have two sites in the search page results?
A: If you have not completed the migration to Website Builder, your Web Wizard site will be listed as "Courses Website" and your Website Builder site will be listed as "Experts Website", since it has the content migrated from University Experts. After you complete the migration, you will only have one link.
Q: Why don't I see my Courses listed?
A: The most common reason for courses not appearing is that the Courses module is not
active. It is possible to make individual courses active without making the Courses
module active
Q: Why isn't my site updating?
A: Any time you make changes to your site, you need to publish your site. If you still do not see the new content after you have published, the most common reason is that your browser is showing you a cached version of the page. Refreshing the page (F5 on Windows, or Command-R on Macs) should correct this problem. If it doesn't you can also try clearing your cache.
Q: What is Enhanced Mode?
A: The default configuration of Website Builder is "Basic Mode", which is meant to be accessible to all users. Users who are able to see the page and use a mouse might prefer to use Enhanced Mode, which allows items to be re-ordered using mouse "drag and drop" instead of clicking on up and down arrows. Enhanced Mode also allows the use of the XStandard WYSIWYG editor. To use Enhanced Mode, go to Settings and click the "Enhanced Mode (with drag and drop)" radio button.
Q: What is XStandard?
A:XStandard is a Web Standards compliant WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) text editor that is installed as a plug-in in your browser. Visit XStandard test page to test your XStandard installation or download the plug-in. If you would like to use it, go to Settings, make sure Enhanced Mode is selected, and check the Use XStandard Text Editor box.
Q: Why do I see a message that says "Please change the mode back to WYSIWYG before you save to ensure that your HTML is valid."
A: You may see this message if you have chosen Enhanced Mode and Use XStandard Text Editor in your Settings but have not yet installed the XStandard plug-in.
Q: What is the difference between Form-Based entry and Open Text Field?
A: There are two ways to enter Publications and Presentations information.
Using the form-based method, you will fill in form fields for Publication/Presentation Title, Author, Publisher, Abstract, etc. for each publication or presentation.
Using the open text field, you can copy and paste a previously formatted list of publications and/or presentations.
Note: If you change from one method to the other, information entered using the old method will no longer be visible on your web page.
Updating legacy document URLs
Why do I have to change my links?
A: The Spartan Faculty Web Wizard system is being phased out. As part of that process, we will be deleting the contents of the Web Wizard upload directory. Links to documents in that directory will be redirected to the appropriate Website Builder home page.
Which documents are affected?
A: Contact Web Services if you would like to know which documents of yours are still being accessed at their old locations.
How do I know if a document is in Web Wizard or Website Builder?
A: Links to Web Wizard documents start with http://www.sjsu.edu/upload/course/...
Links to Website Builder documents start with http://www.sjsu.edu/people/first.last/courses/...
How do I move a document from Web Wizard to Website Builder?
A:
- If you don't have a copy of the document, use your old link to download the document to your computer.
- Upload the document to your Website Builder site, publish, then visit the site to find the new URL.
- If you have other sites, change all of the old links to use the new URL.
- If you know of other sites that link to your documents, request that the webmaster update the links.
