What is AlcoholEdu?

AlcoholEdu is a web-based alcohol education program that is recognized nationally for its effectiveness. This program combines the latest prevention techniques and research to educate students about the impact of alcohol. As you well know, alcohol is a significant issue in the lives of students. Whether you abstain from alcohol or not, it is an influence in our lives and in the lives of our family and friends. Content learned through AlcoholEdu can help you make informed decisions about alcohol and better handle drinking behavior that may occur around you. Your physical and emotional health, now and throughout your life, will serve as an important foundation for all that you will accomplish.

Do I need to complete AlcoholEdu?

San José State University requires all incoming undergraduate students to complete the AlcoholEdu program. Please remember to check your e-mail/MySJSU for more information about the program and how to complete it. 

How do I complete AlcoholEdu?

Instructions on how to access AlcoholEdu are posted on your MySJSU account when course opens. You will simply go to the website link provided and login using My SJSU/ student ID number and password.

Note: This is a different process than signing up for your regular SJSU courses. 

You will need a computer with internet access and audio capabilities. If you do not have access to a computer, you can use any publicly available computer with internet access (check your local library). 

How long will AlcoholEdu take to complete?

Part 1 of AlcoholEdu takes approximately 90 mins to complete. Part 2 will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. 

Will SJSU faculty or staff have access to my responses?

No. All survey responses are strictly confidential; SJSU will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will NEVER see any individual student’s answers.

Is there a cost to complete AlcoholEdu course?

No. AlcoholEdu is FREE for SJSU students.

Will the grade I get on this test be reflected in my transcript?

No.The grade you get in the course will not appear on your transcript and it will not affect your GPA.

Where can I go for help related to alcohol or drug use?
You can make an appointment with a Health Educator by calling 408-924-6122. You can also make an appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) by calling
408-924-5910.

Why do I need to complete these courses? These courses really don't apply to me. 

The spirit of these required courses is to foster an informed, supportive, and safe community where every member is engaged and actively considering how to be a positive influence whether on campus, off campus, or on-line. SJSU must comply with educational mandates under Title IX, VAWA/Campus SaVE Act, and the Clery Act, ALL incoming students (on-line, certificate courses, graduate students, International Gateway, etc.) are required to complete Haven: Understanding Sexual Assault. Additionally, ALL incoming undergraduate students are also required complete the AlcoholEdu course.  

What will happen if I don’t complete the courses by the deadlines for my student group?

A “hold” will be placed on your spring registration preventing you from registering for spring classes.

You must complete both Part 1 and Part 2 of course(s): after approximately 30-45 days of completing Part 1, you will receive a reminder in your MySJSU email to complete Part 2, this must be completed to be considered compliant.
