Students in the BFA programs, or those at the 100 level seeking admission to the BFA programs in Graphic, Industrial, and Interior Design, Animation/ Illustration, Photography, and Digital Media Art are required this fall to own a laptop computer and the appropriate software for their classes. All students in these programs should have a computer equivalent to a Macintosh Intel Duo Core, 2.1 Ghz processor, 120 Gig HD, 1 Gig RAM with Airport card. The computer will most likely cost somewhere between $1300 and $3000, depending on the model. Related software will probably cost $300- $1000.
All other students (Art Education, Art History, Pictorial and Spatial Art are also required to have a laptop computer and appropriate software. Maximum values will be the same as for the other students, though students in these programs probably will not need a computer with the same capabilities as students in the other programs. An Apple MacBook or similar hardware would be appropriate. These may be purchased for $1000 or even less for the computer and $300 -$500 for software.
NOTE: Adobe and Apple have provided significant discounts through the University's Spartan Bookstore. If you are planning to purchase an Apple laptop and/or Adobe Software, be sure to visit the Spartan Bookstore on campus for absolutely the very best prices on theses items. Specific software needed for advanced courses will be provided through University site license agreements.
