Journalism and Mass Communications

All majors, beginning fall semester 2003, are required to have a laptop computer if they are enrolled in Journalism and Mass Communication classes at the 100-level or above.

Minimal Hardware Requirements for the computer:

  • Apple Macintosh G3,G4 computers and comparable PC brands such as Compaq, Dell Inspiration and Latitude computers may also meet these minimal standards.
  • Minimum of 256MB, but 512MB is recommended.
  • 20GB, but at least 40GB is recommended.

Minimal Software Requirements:

Microsoft Office

Adobe Suite The programs in this basic suite are PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat. Some courses may also require purchase of Adobe’s GoLive and/or LiveMotion, but you should check with your instructor at the beginning of the semester.
