Department of World Languages and Literatures invites Students in French, Spanish and Italian, to apply for this $1000 scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded for the two best essays submitted by November 25, 2013 (noon).



Discuss the following quote by Johann Wolfgang  van Goethe:
"A man who is ignorant of foreign languages is also ignorant of his own language."
Essays must be written in English, no more than three pages, Times font 12 and double spaced.


The criteria for distribution or use in order of priority are:

  • a graduate student in French
  • a graduate student in Spanish
  • an outstanding undergraduate student with minor in Italian
  • All factors being equal, students facing economic hardship will be given preference.
