Tuesday, October 27 - 12:00-1:00 (Kamryn Clarke): Common Grammar and
Punctuation Errors - OPEN for registration
Located in Clark Hall 118
Have you had an instructor comment that your essay has excellent content, but
your writing is weakened by too many serious grammar errors? In this workshop,
we will review some of the most common grammar and punctuation errors in student
writing, including run-ons, comma splices, fragments, subject-verb and
pronoun-antecedent agreement issues, and punctuation misuse.
Wednesday, October 28 - 1:00-2:00 (Jan Hagemann): Netiquette - OPEN for registration Located in Clark Hall 118
All e-mails are not created equal. An e-mail to an employer or faculty member
should be written in a different style and tone than one to a friend. This
workshop will teach you appropriate "net etiquette."
Thursday, October 29 - 12:00-1:00 (Michelle Hager): Essay Prompts
and Time Management - OPEN for registration
Located in Clark Hall 118
In-class essay writing is intimidating for many students; however, successful
in-class writing depends not only on your composition skills but also on your
ability to analyze the prompt and manage your time properly. This workshop will
focus on two interrelated topics: (1) understanding and critically analyzing
essay prompts, and (2) using time management strategies for the various stages
of the in-class, timed writing process (pre-writing, composing the essay, and
editing/revising).

Verbs with Muscle - OPEN for registration Located

This workshop will change your writing forever. Learn how to avoid
nominalization (turning strong verbs into nouns) and drastically improve
coherence and conciseness in your papers.
Tuesday, November 3 - 1:00-2:00 (Jen Jebens): Introduction to Essay
Exams - OPEN for registration Located in

Do you find in-class essays intimidating? This workshop will teach you tips
and tricks for planning and writing your in-class essays. Analyze prompts,
create outlines, and discuss what goes into a well-structured essay. (Note: This
workshop is targeted toward those writing for English 1A/1B in-class essays, but
all are welcome to attend.)

Learn how to write well-developed, well-written body paragraphs that support
a thesis statement and clearly explain quotes or other arguments. You will
receive an accompanying packet of handouts on essay form.

APA style is required in many majors, not just psychology. This
workshop provides basic information on in-text citation formats and
reference lists to ensure that your paper will be in compliance with the latest
guidelines.

Punctuate your papers for success! This workshop will guide you through the
rules of proper punctuation.

Style Located in Clark Hall 118
You've heard a dozen warnings about plagiarism, and now you have a research
paper due! If you've forgotten the details of citing sources and writing
footnotes - or never had a systematic lesson - this is the place to sharpen your
skills. (Be sure that MLA style is acceptable to your instructor. Other
workshops will cover other styles, such as APA.)

Paraphrasing Located in Clark Hall 118
Paraphrasing can be both an effective way to show comprehension of an
original text and an important technique to avoid plagiarism. In this workshop,
we analyze and discuss effective ways to paraphrase. Participants also engage in
individual and/or group practice to help them improve this valuable skill.
