Nominated by Craig MacDonald, '71 Social Science
Professor Dolores Spurgeon literally changed my life. The very first article I wrote for her in Magazine Writing came back with several critical comments. I was horrified, then followed her suggestions and resubmitted the story. Dolores said it would be a great article for the Mercury News magazine. It was, and I've been a professional writer/speaker ever since. That first article also became the subject of my first book (Cockeyed Charley Parkhurst -- The West's Most Unusual Stagewhip), my first movie contract and my first conference speech. The rest is history, and I owe it all to Dolores who continues to inspire me 40 years later.
