
Not long after the San José State Event Center opened in 1989, His Holiness the Dalai Lama presided over a private Buddhist gathering in the facility. Monks in saffron robes and worshiping Buddhists gathered quietly to hear the newly dubbed Nobel Peace Prize laureate speak. While on campus, His Holiness gave the Event Center a kindly gift -- a Buddhist blessing.
In this and the following three issues, SJSU Washington Square will celebrate the Event Center's auspicious beginning and 20 years of hosting artists like Santana, Fall Out Boy, No Doubt and Prince, as well as community events like Tahiti Fete and local high school graduation ceremonies.
