History 102
History Department GE courses are designed to foster the development of information literacy skills
through the use of an "introduce, reinforce, culminate" model. Taken as a series, these courses allow
students to acquire information competency in progressive and manageable steps.
- Introduce — students get their first exposure to concepts and begin using them to complete guided assignments.
- Reinforce — students revisit concepts to which they have already been introduced, and begin using them independently to complete coursework.
- Culminate — students master information literacy concepts, integrate them into their skills set, and can utilize them to complete self-guided coursework.
Visit the Competency Standards for History Students page for a breakdown of the skills addressed in each class.
Before beginning HIST 102 projects, it is strongly advised that
the class have an "introduction to the library" class, preferably led by a research librarian in history.
