Become a Guardian on Campus

Earlier this year, UPD brought a mobile safety app called RAVE Guardian to campus. The app is free to download from the App Store and Google play.
There are several benefits for members of our campus community to be in contact with people they trust, guardians, and emergency services. RAVE Guardian has the following features.

  • Safety Timer - You can notify people you trust to check in on you if you are alone or in an unfamiliar place.
  • Message your guardians - Invite your friends, family or others to be your guardians and then communicate with them from within the app.
  • Emergency Communication - Contact safety officials directly from the app if you need help or if you see something suspicious. You can send text tips as well as photos.

UPD invites San Jose State students, faculty and staff members, as well as their family members to use RAVE guardian as a supplemental safety and security measure.

UPD Student Forum
UPD Community Engagement

UPD believes it is important to engage with the SJSU community that it serves. Recently, UPD partnered with the San Jose Police Department to speak to a group of students in an open forum setting. In addition to the presentation by UPD and SJPD to help understand law enforcement's role, students were invited to ask questions.
Thanks to Dr. Cheers and Michael Randle for the invitation. UPD looks forward to opportunities to strengthen the relationship with the SJSU campus community.

24th Annual Holiday Toy Drive

UPD will be hosting it's 24th Annual Holiday Toy Drive this December. The date for wrapping is scheduled for December 16th, at 11:00 a.m. in the event center aerobics room. The date for toy delivery and pick up from UPD is scheduled for December 19th. Last year UPD delivered toys and gift cards to nearly 200 families in and around our community. This year we hope to reach 250 families. This is an awesome event so please consider coming out to help or making a donation to support the cause. If you know of someone in need or you are in need please let us know so we can help.

Anyone wishing to donate time, money or toys is encouraged to contact Brenda Martin ( or Tameka Harris ( at UPD.
