Water Tank
WateReuse California Customer of the Year

In the midst of an historic drought, Californians have taken an innovative approach to expanding the use of recycled water across the state. Utilities, businesses, and people that are making a significant impact in advancing the creative use of recycled water were honored by WateReuse California during an awards ceremony in Santa Rosa on March 14, 2016.

San Jose State University has won the award for Recycled Water Customer of the Year for achieving significant milestones in water conservation through the use of recycled water.

SJSU is the oldest public institution for Higher Education in California and has an extensive water infrastructure at main and south campus. Through these achievements we are able to offer our 33,000+ students green space on campus to support both the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The vision of SJSU’s water reuse program began nearly 2 decades ago and, as we all know, must continue into the future. Our program began in supporting the CSU directive for Sustainable Design and Operations and continues to exceed our milestones.  The use
of reclaimed water in various applications has saved 70 million gallons of potable water each year. As we complete the current planned projects the campus will be saving 104 million gallons a year.

Thanks to the staff, faculty and students who have made this achievement possible.
