Virtual Support from Peer Connections

 

Peer Connections is still here to provide tutoring, mentoring,  supplemental instruction, and learning assistant services. 

 

Students can schedule virtual tutoring and mentoring appointments through Spartan Connect. More information is available here:

Information about Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

 

Counseling and Psychological Services will be going 100% remote and will be offering telemental health services.  Thus, CAPS will not be physically open beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, until further notice.  Students who are seeking services can call our main number (408) 924-5910 and leave a message.  We will call them back to schedule an appointment and get them connected with us.  We are working to get the software installed for calls from our Call Center forwarded to remote locations. If you have been successful in setting up your Call Center for your department so that calls coming in can be directed to certain numbers remotely, please backchannel me so that I can connect with you privately.  

 

For crises, please call CAPS main line (408) 924-5910 and select option 4 to get connected to a crisis counselor.  Additionally, staff can call the Santa Clara Mobile Crisis Team, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM when managing a student in crisis.  They will assess individuals in crisis over the phone and intervene as needed.  Staff can reach the County Mobile Crisis Team at (800) 704-0900, and select option 2.  Students can also use the Santa Clara Suicide and Crisis Hotline at (855) 278-4204 or the Crisis Text line by texting "Home" at 741741.  I am attaching a resource sheet of the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services for you.

 Accessibility Webinars for Transitioning to Online Instruction :

 

  In partnership with the @ONE-CVC-OEI team, the CCC Accessibility Center will be hosting a series of webinars this week focusing on accessibility practices for online teaching. The sessions will occur twice a day, Tuesday through Thursday this week.

 

     These sessions are intended for instructors who teach face-to-face and are using Canvas for course materials and to maintain instructional continuity. The sessions include quick steps to create accessible pages in Canvas by organizing content, adding accurate heading styles, tables, alt text for images, lists, and accurately captioned videos. Faculty are welcome to join and ask questions about Canvas and accessibility.

Sessions will be the following:

 

·       Tuesday (March 24), Wednesday (March 25), and Thursday (March 26)

·       Morning session: 10AM-11AM

·       Afternoon session: 3PM-4PM
