Reckmeyer Global Fellow Award
This annual award honors graduate students whose work demonstrates scholarly excellence and global perspectives. It was established in 2020 by long-time faculty member Dr. William J. Reckmeyer and his wife, Joan P. Reckmeyer, to support graduate students in the SJSU Applied Anthropology graduate program, as well as eligible students in the SJSU Interdisciplinary Studies program. The award, which is granted to one graduate student each year, includes an unrestricted honorarium of $1000. Awardees make a presentation on their work at the Anthropology Department’s annual AnthROX celebration, or another public event.
Students applying for the Reckmeyer Global Fellow Award must meet the following criteria: (1) current enrollment in either the Anthropology Department’s M.A. in Applied Anthropology program or in the College of Graduate Studies M.A.-M.S. Program in Interdisciplinary Studies; (2) completion of at least 15 units of SJSU graduate coursework; (3) demonstrated scholarly excellence with a significant global dimension in study and research; (4) nomination by a current member of the SJSU Anthropology Department’s graduate faculty.
To apply for the Reckmeyer Global Fellow Award, email the following materials to our department at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than October 1:
- A brief nomination letter from a member of the SJSU Anthropology Department graduate
faculty—this can be emailed directly from the professor to the address above
- A one-page personal statement (450-500 words), explaining your interest in the award,
your experience, and a summary of your qualifications
- A copy of your unofficial transcript from SJSU
Please be sure to include the words “Reckmeyer Global Fellow Award” in the subject
line. Awards are announced in early November each year, and student presentations
are scheduled in the spring.
