How to Purchase Transit Passes and Bike Enclosure Keys During COVID-19

How to Purchase Regional Transit Passes (ACE & Highway 17 Express)

The Student Union is closed through July and visitors will not be permitted inside the building to purchase transit passes. A.S. Transportation Solutions has made the following changes to accommodate with the closing: 

  • A curbside pick up option has been added to the online store 
  • The mailing option has been removed

NOTE: Students who are not enrolled for Summer are not eligible to purchase transit passes during this time. If you are enrolled for Fall 2020, do not attempt to purchase any online passes. Fall term will begin in August. 

Paying with credit card: 

Complete your order through the online store and select “Request curbside pick up” during checkout. When you are ready to pick up, park in the lot by the ATMs near the east side of the Student Union Building, text your car type and color to 831-239-9821. A staff member will take your ticket to you. Be prepared to present your Tower ID at the time of pick up.

Paying with cash or commuter check:

Park in the lot by the ATMs near the east side of the Student Union Building, then call 831-239-982 and provide the staff member with information about your car type and color, and which pass you would like to purchase. Someone will come to your vehicle with the ticket you requested and will process your transaction at the time of pick up. Tower ID will be required at the time of pick up. 

Pick up hours will be Thursdays between 11am- 3pm. Please follow the precautions recommended by the CDC

Purchasing a SmartPass Clipper

NOTE: Students who are not enrolled for Summer are not eligible to purchase transit passes during this time. If you are enrolled for Fall 2020, do not attempt to purchase any online passes. Fall term will begin in August.

First, complete the online request. If you do not complete this, you will not be eligible to purchase a Smartpass. 

Students: Select the Student Clipper Card Fee ($3) at the time of purchase if it is your first time purchasing a SmartPass. If you are purchasing a replacement for the first or second time, select the correct replacement option. If you are an Open University student and do not pay the Associated Students fee as part of your tuition, you will be required to pay the Clipper card fee ($3) plus the  Summer Fee ($65).

Employees: Select the Faculty/Staff New User option on the online store and pay the $25 fee for your Smart Pass. If you are replacing your Clipper please select the correct replacement option. 

 

How to Obtain a Bicycle Enclosure Key:

You must be a student enrolled for Summer or a current employee to sign up for an access key. Fall 2020 students will not be eligible untill August (Fall term). First, fill out the Bike Enclosure Key Agreement Form, [pdf] [pdf], print it out, and take it with you at the time of pick up. When filling out the form, you'll need to provide your SJSU Tower Card number and your bicycle's make, color and serial number (The serial number is usually printed on the bottom of the frame). There is a $15 fee for the access key.

Note: Only currently enrolled or employed SJSU students and faculty/staff may sign up for bicycle enclosure keys and have access to enclosures. TS will deactivate keys issued to users who are no longer enrolled or employed at SJSU.

At check out, choose “Request curbside pick up”. When you are ready for pick up, park in the lot by the ATMs near the east side of the Student Union Building, text your car type and color to 831-239-9821. A staff member will take your bike key to you. Be prepared with your completed bicycle agreement form and Tower ID at the time of pick up.

Paying with cash:

Park in the lot by the ATMs near the east side of the Student Union Building, then call 831-239-982, let the staff member know you are there to purchase a bike key and provide your car type and color. Someone will come to your vehicle with a bike key and will process your transaction at the time of pick up. Be prepared with your completed bicycle agreement form and Tower ID at the time of pick up.

Optional Bike Lockers for Bike Key Holders 

Transportation Solutions provides long-term rental of the accessory lockers located inside every Bicycle Enclosure for a non-refundable base fee of $30.00 and a one-time refundable key deposit of $20.00. To rent a locker, fill out the Bike Locker Rental Agreement Form [pdf] [pdf], print it out, and take it with you at the time of pick up.

Note: The lockers inside the Bike Enclosures are not weather-proof and are for storing

Curbside Pick up During Student Union Closure:

Please follow the same instructions for obtaining a bike key. The online store will give you the option to purchase a bike locker key. For first time purchasers, select the “Bike Locker Deposit ($20) Plus Locker Fee ($30) option. If you are replacing your bike locker key, select the correct lost locker key option if it is your first or second time replacing your locker key. 

Enclosure Guidelines

  • Hold access key near the sensor to open the Enclosure door. 
  • Lock your bicycle's frame and wheel to the bike rack with your own lock. (U-locks strongly recommended)
  • Overnight parking is not recommended.
