Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the Audiology doctoral program are provided in EO 1112, Article 2, Admissions. They are as follows:

A.  Completion of a baccalaureate degree earned at an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or an equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority (i.e., Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluation [GAPE]);

B.  An overall GPA of 3.0 or better in all undergraduate and graduate coursework:

C.  Completion of prerequisite courses in a) statistics; b) biological science; c) physics or chemistry; d) social or behavioral science (psychology, sociology, anthropology, or others involving human behavior); and e) American Sign Language (optional but preferred);

D.  The GRE will be waived for Fall 2022 admissions;

E.  An applicant-authored statement of purpose reflecting a commitment to audiology, including the applicant’s preparation for training in this profession, aptitude and motivation, commitment to working with diverse populations and the basis for interest in audiology and specifically, the SJSU program of study;

F.  Three letters of recommendation;

G.  Resume; and 

H.  Documentation of 20 hours of observation in an audiological clinic or private practice.

Applications will be accepted through the cut-off date of February 1, 2022. Note: Students in the process of obtaining prerequisite courses or clinical hours may be accepted conditionally with verification of completion of these requirements at least one month before the start of the Fall 2022 semester.

How To Apply

Applicants will need to create an account in the Centralized Application Service for Communication Science and Disorders (CSDCAS) as well as Cal State Apply in order to submit applications to our program. In order for your application to be reviewed, you will need to EXACTLY follow the steps outlined in the application guidelines document [pdf]

Applicants must also submit their official transcripts. All mailed transcripts must be sealed and unopened to be accepted as official documents. If your university offers electronic transcripts, SJSU will also accept this method of delivery. Note: If you are a current SJSU undergraduate student, you are not required to submit SJSU transcripts with your Cal State Apply application, but you will be required to submit them to CSDCAS. In your CSDCAS application, applicants will need to include the observation form documenting their 20 hours of observation completed in an audiological clinic or private practice. Applicants will need to download the clinical observation hours form [xlxs], complete the form, obtain the required signatures and submit it in the Documents section of your CSDCAS application.
