Our Application Process

The Master's Program in Chicana and Chicano Studies at San José State University is committed to training the next generation of Chicana/o Studies scholars and activists to take on the vast array of issues facing academia and our communities today. 

Now is a very exciting time to join our department!  We have a great faculty with a wide array of interests/expertise, continue to hire our grad students to work in our undergraduate mentoring program, and are focused on our mission of serving our students and communities through Chicana/o Studies work for Social Justice in all its forms. 

SJSU has decided to allow some Spring admits this year.  The Chicana and Chicano Studies Master's Program is among those who will be admitting students for Spring. 

Fall Admission Deadlines and Requirements

  • April 1: SJSU online application | Official Transcripts | $55 application fee (Payment of the CSU ApplicationFee of $70 [starting with Fall 2020 admission] will be accepted by credit card or paypal only.)

  • April 15: Personal Statement | Writing Sample | Two Letters of Recommendation. Descriptions of these documents can be found at the Application Requirements page of our department website.
