Public Voices Fellowship
The Office of the Provost and the Center for Faculty Development, in collaboration
with the OpEd Project, are pleased to announce the launch of a brand new, exciting
professional development opportunity. We encourage and invite all SJSU faculty to
apply to the inaugural SJSU Public Voices Fellowship 2020 cohort.
The OpEd Project's goal is "to increase the range of voices and quality of ideas we hear in the world". SJSU's 2020 Public Voices Fellowship marks our first entry into this national initiative aimed at dramatically increasing the public impact of women and underrepresented thought leaders. In particular, the fellowship is geared towards those who have not yet learned how to translate their scholarship to public action, ensuring that their ideas help to shape the important conversations of our age.
Those selected for this fellowship will join a cohort of 20 SJSU faculty from across the disciplines to engage in four on-campus, in-person convenings over the course of nine months (8/27-28, 10/16, 12/11 and 3/19, 9AM to 5PM each day). This highly creative training series has been designed as an experiment in accelerating ideas and public impact, fostering fellowship and discourse across difference, and testing what it takes to be influential on a large scale. In addition, fellows will have the chance to work with top journalist mentors for dedicated one-on-one coaching. Fellows are expected to attend all four convenings in full, and to commit to producing at least two op-eds during the fellowship.
Applications are due by January 10, 2020 by 5 PM, and will only be accepted through the fully online DocuSign application. Please direct any questions to Deanna Fassett, Director, Center for Faculty Development at firstname.lastname@example.org.
