Laurie Drabble, Associate Dean for Research and Faculty

Laurie Drabble, Associate Dean of ResearchDr. Laurie Drabble, PhD, is Associate Dean for Research and Faculty at San José State University, College of Health and Human Sciences. She is also an Affiliate Scientist with the Alcohol Research Group in Emeryville, CA.  Prior to her current position, she served as Professor in the School of Social Work at SJSU. Dr. Drabble has a strong background in obtaining and managing externally funded research projects, including over 3.2 million in research funding as PI for both NIH funded and community-engaged research. She has served as a standing member of an NIH Scientific Review Group and has a breadth of experience working on grant development and implementation with non-profit organizations, government agencies, and grass-roots community groups.  She has extensive experience in mentorship both within the university and for state and national leadership programs, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Women’s Addiction Services Leadership Institute (WASLI) Program, the national Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse (DLRSA) program, and the California Women's Leadership Project. She also coordinated the leadership development component of an ambitious 2.5-million-dollar USAID project designed to develop social work education and the field of social work in Vietnam. In addition to her experience in academia, she brings to her position over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, organizational development, project management, and interdisciplinary training in health and allied professions.

Areas of Interest: Epidemiological and qualitative research on alcohol and drug related problems among marginalized populations of women, with a special focus on sexual minority women.
